Moveable Piece believes in helping inspire, develop and celebrate new plays. Commissioning new plays and supporting working playwrights is our way of enjoying the theater of now and ensuring a theater of the future.
IN UNEXPECTED PLACES
Moveable Piece is dedicated to mounting performances and staged readings in non-theater spaces. Theater produced in the real world wakes us up. We find that eschewing a traditional theater space requires compelling storytelling and heightened engagement from performers and audience alike.
FOR LOS ANGELES
Moveable Piece strives to create work that is customized to its location. We create site-specific performances for individual sites that directly reflect the people, places, and audiences of that location and neighborhood. We frequently work in public places and offer our performances for free. Passersby become unplanned audience members during rehearsals and performances.
Performing theater on location is also our way of embracing L.A.'s compartmentalized culture -- instead of expecting audiences to come to us, we bring our performances to them.
